Happy New Year!

So I'm trying to figure out what is more worthy of worrying about right now the Y2K bug which nearly everyone says is going to create chaos starting this year or the weather.

Now the weather might not seem a worthy candidate right now since it is close to 80 degrees here in Florida but its not the weather here I'm worried about. Its the weather in all the places I have to travel in the next couple of weeks that concerns me.

I watch the weather channel and their psychics who keep me abreast of what the weather will be like during the next seven days. This morning when I watched they said one thing predicting snow as far south as Atlanta on Monday; a few minutes ago that had changed to just a rather windy day with no chance of precipitation. Now you might ask why would their weather prediction have changed in such a short period of time?

The computer model changed. This morning the computer was telling them one thing; now its telling them something very different.

Now that makes me worry if the computer are having a nervous breakdown over this Y2K thing and now are spitting out all kinds of silly stuff the fruit of which I am reaping on the weather channel.

There are those who seldom worry about anything. I envy them. Perhaps that is what I will give up this new year worrying.

Perhaps from this day forward I will just go about my business and not really care what the doomsayers are predicting lies just over the horizon.

That sounds like a good idea with the year 2000 looming just 365 days from now. I can only presume that there are going to be a lot of predictions of disasters awaiting us in the days ahead.

One of my favorites is that we are now in the midst of a dangerous warming trend that is taking over the earth. This is resulting in record high temperatures all over the north during the winter. I saw this story on the news the other night right after the lead story which was about the record amount of snowfall and ice that had made its way all the way into the deep south.

I was reminded of it this morning while I watched the weather channel and saw that the temperatures in the northeast were in the single digits. That doesn't strike me as any warming trend.

Advertisers learned a long time ago to sell something you have to create a need. To create a need you have to get people worried.

I'm resolved not to worry this year.

My advice to you is do the same, to paraphrase a song, "Don't worry be happy this New Year!"
