A Day on the Farm

Last night the pig was acting strange. When I walked by its pen around 10 it was wandering around drinking water and then relieving itself and showing itself to be very irritated.

I stopped and observed her for awhile and then decided to go and fill her water dish and give her some more food. She was very grateful for both.

She is very pregnant and I was sure that she was about to give birth so I hung around awhile longer until she finally retired to her doghouse where she moved around continuously giving me the impression that she could not get comfortable.

The pig reminded me of my sister whom a few weeks ago while very pregnant kept me up half the night as she wandered around her house and told me that she couldn't get comfortable. But the pig unlike my sister who had a child a few hours later remains very pregnant this morning.

In fact after further reflection last night I decided that what was agitating the pig was probably a bad case of heartburn from the leftover spicy rice dish I had served it earlier in the evening.

I had to drive the cattle out from around the barn last night. They seem to show up out of nowhere and can really make a mess in a hurry, not to mention making it difficult to pass through their midst which I need to do to get from point A on the farm to point B.

I hopped in the truck and herded them out of the barn area and back into the pasture. Their butts in my headlights were excreting mightily no doubt their version of the middle finger.

The cat followed me up to the cabin and sat on the porch where normally the Labrador sits. Later when the lab arrived I was amazed at this dog who does a pretty good job of kicking my butt every day was afraid of this little cat. The dog wouldn't even come to me with the cat snarling at it from below near my feet.

The cat followed me up here I think because it was jealous of the little puppy (who by this time was at the Vets getting shots) who had followed me around all morning. The puppy was born on December 1 and still misses its mother pretty bad, which means that it cries a lot.

The puppy is here because we had tragedy here last week. The Siberian Husky who herself was on 2 years old was taken to the Vet when it was clear that she was loosing way too much weight. It turned out that she had cancer and was put to sleep.

Now the new puppy mourns for his mother and in my mind for the dog he replaces.
