Nonevent of the week
Well the weekend has begun and for most of us that means two days of Super Bowl hype until finally at 6 p.m. tomorrow night they kick the ball off. This year's Super Bowl is kind of funny to me personally because of something that I said earlier in the year right after I attended a preseason game between Atlanta and Tennessee.
Someone asked me how I liked the game and I said, "Well it was okay but since neither of these teams has a snow ball's chance in hell of making it to the Super Bowl it wasn't that interesting."
Later in the season when I attended my second Falcons game against New Orleans my estimation of the team hadn't changed much. I think at that point in the season I was of the mind that their record reflected the schedule they had played to that point in the season. After all they had their butts handed to them against San Francisco who was really the only decent team they had played to that point in the season.
My other complaint with the Falcons was that they were the only team I had ever seen play in person where I could barely name two or three players on the team. Hell I didn't even know that Elijah Williams (a former Florida Gator) played for them until hearing his name mentioned during one of the playoff games.
Now part of the problem is that the Falcons received little exposure on television, which is another problem with how the NFL picks the games that will be nationally televised. Who could have predicted that the Falcons would be in the Super Bowl this year?
Blame it on Trent Dilfer. If Dilfer had played half decent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be in the Super Bowl and Warren Sapp would be sacking John Elway. But instead we have the former Buccaneer Chandler leading the Falcons into a game that most people feel they have no business being in.
Denver was beat twice during the regular season by the Giants and Dolphins. Atlanta beat both teams by a wide margin. Since God is so intent on proving all of my predictions wrong I will not tell you who I think will win the Super Bowl by 10 points. I will give you a hint though...
